How can we keep a child’s room or the bathroom comfortably warm in a healthy way? And how can we maintain proper humidity levels?

It’s important to remember that newborns need to be in a room with a constant temperature. The younger and smaller a baby is, the more vulnerable it becomes to changes in temperature, particularly the cold. Neither excessive heat, nor low temperatures are ideal for babies, particularly newborns. In general, pediatricians recommend keeping the room temperature between 20 and 21 °C (note: these values are indicative – always consult your pediatrician for specific guidance).

It is therefore essential that the recommended temperature in the baby’s room is kept as constant as possible. For this reason, convectors are considered as the ideal heating solution for babies and children. Especially when equipped with a digital thermostat, a convector can keep the room temperature constant with a precision of ±0.5 °C or higher, while reducing energy consumption. The quality of heat produced by convectors is excellent, as they warm the air through natural convection, without drying out the atmosphere, thus creating a pleasant and comfortable environment. With convector heaters, there is also the option of autonomous heating in each room. This provides both comfort and energy savings, as it is not necessary to maintain every space at the temperature recommended for a newborn’s or child’s room. Convector heaters are also perfectly safe for babies and children, as long as they have the proper safety certifications. Their surface does not become dangerously hot, they have child-friendly rounded edges and corners, and they are equipped with a safety system against overheating that turns the heater off automatically — for instance, if it’s accidentally covered with a fabric. Finally, modern convector heaters compliant with the EcoDESIGN 2024/1103 regulation offer even greater convenience, featuring weekly programming options and an open-window detection sensor. Explore some of the most popular digital convectors that meet the EcoDESIGN 2024/1103 standard: Radialight Sirio, Radialight Klima & Radialight Kyoto.

Heating the bathroom for babies and children is equally important, as this room is used frequently for hygiene and daily care. Heating units intended for bathrooms must carry a protection rating of IP24, so that they can operate safely under conditions of humidity and steam. These units should always be installed away from areas where they might be exposed to water splashes. You can read more in our article on the ideal heating for the bathroom.

Special attention should also be paid to the relative humidity in the baby’s room.
Both air conditioners and fan heaters tend to dry out the air excessively, which is why they are not recommended for childrens’ rooms. Pediatricians generally suggest that the ideal humidity level for babies is higher than that for adults — between 60% and 70% (please note: these values are indicative; you should always consult your pediatrician).
To maintain the humidity within these ideal limits, it may be necessary to use a dehumidifier.

Finally, besides heating in winter, natural cooling during the summer is also essential — and it’s a healthier option for children compared to artificial cooling. The best way to achieve natural cooling in a child’s room is by using a ceiling fan.
