What is the European Ecodesign 2024\/1103 directive, and how does it help reduce the energy use of convector heaters? <\/sup><\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>A convector heater with a <strong>digital thermostat<\/strong> that\u2019s properly sized for the room it\u2019s installed in operates with up to 60% thermostat-controlled pauses. On an average winter day, in a home with standard insulation and normal indoor and outdoor temperatures, it runs continuously for the first 15\u201330 minutes. Once the desired room temperature is reached, it maintains it while consuming roughly half of its nominal power, thanks to the thermostat\u2019s high sensitivity (\u00b10.5 \u00b0C or even less). As a result, its operation is very energy-efficient.   <\/sup><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zesta.gr\/image\/catalog\/Blogs\/convector-consumption.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>Let\u2019s take as an example a 1500 W digital convector heater. Its rated power (1500 W) means that if it runs continuously for one hour without the thermostat switching off, it will consume 1.5 kWh (you can check the cost per kWh on your electricity bill). However, when installed in a room of about 10\u201312 m\u00b2 with a ceiling height of around 2.8 m and good insulation, once the desired temperature is reached, the digital thermostat will be switching the heating element on and off with very small temperature deviations (\u00b1 0.5 \u00b0C or less). This way, it consumes only the exact amount of energy needed to maintain the desired temperature. Under such conditions, you can expect up to 50\u201360% thermostat-controlled pauses, meaning that the actual hourly consumption will be around 0.6\u20130.75 kWh. If you know roughly how many hours per day it will run, you can easily estimate your total energy consumption. Please note that these figures are based on average practical measurements and can vary depending on several factors, such as insulation quality, heat losses, desired indoor temperature, room size, outdoor temperature (climate zone), and hours of operation. Nevertheless, compared with other electric heating systems, a digital convector heater stands out for its low energy consumption and consistent performance.<\/sup><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>Like all wall-mounted electric heating appliances, convector heaters must comply with the European Ecodesign 2024\/1103 directive. Models that meet this standard feature a digital thermostat with a sensitivity of \u00b10.5 \u00b0C or even lower. They also include useful functions such as weekly programming, open-window detection, and in some cases, motion sensors. All these features are designed to prevent unnecessary energy consumption \u2014 ensuring that the heater provides fast, efficient warmth, while keeping running costs low.   <\/sup><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/zesta.gr\/image\/catalog\/Blogs\/ecodesign-digital-thermostat.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><sup>Additionally, unlike central heating systems, convector heaters allow for full autonomy across different rooms in an apartment or house \u2014 offering even greater energy savings. For example, if you have a home or workspace of around 80 m\u00b2 divided into 4\u20135 rooms, there\u2019s no need to keep the entire area at the same high comfort temperature. With convector heaters, you can easily keep warm only the rooms you\u2019re using, while maintaining lower temperatures in the rest.
